Rock Salt is a product inspired by the temperature influence salt has on water. You might have been exposed to this reaction on a snowy road when cars grind the salt into the snow to prevent icy roads. This temperature phenomenon can be viewed also while cooking. For example, when cooking pasta add some salt to the bowl of boiling water, it will create a higher temperature when adding the pasta.
The Rock Salt project began with researching a snowy day and the act of spreading salt to prevent icy roads. While studying this aspect, the project was inspired by car tires which grind the salt into the snow on the road. The project started with actual car tires, continued to vacuum forming and explored the vast field of size, proportion, positive & negative, stacking options, patterns and graphics.
